South Field Research Group

Noise Forum Meeting | Oakland International Noise ManagementThe South Field Group was formed to address aircraft noise issues associated with the operation of the primary runway and commercial airline activity and the air cargo facilities at Oakland International Airport.

As a technical sub-committee of the Noise Forum, the South Field Group meets quarterly and is chaired by the Airport Operations Manager Airside. The group consists of staff from the cities of Alameda and San Leandro, residents from both communities, and Airport staff. Representatives from the FAA, Federal Express and Southwest Airlines serve as advisors to the group. This organization was formed in 2002 at the request of the City of San Leandro. The purpose is to both share information on current procedures and explore options that might exist to reduce the impact of aircraft noise from South Field operations on neighboring communities. The research group evaluates aircraft noise abatement procedures that reduce noise impacts on neighborhoods while not unduly affecting others and monitors implementation of these procedures.
